Having worked many years as a multidisciplinary artist
in solo as well as group constellations, Steve Buchanan transposes
the neuro-biological theory  « Autopoiesis » into the artistic domain;
creating, with dancer Joszef Trefeli and artist/poetess Heike Fiedler
a  work using the same title and principles as its basis.

The interaction between the different elements is based on
carefully designed repetitive sequences, as well as the principle
of endless autocreation, similar to celluar systems.

The structure of the piece guarantees its continuance,
the permeability of that structure its further evolution as a non static form,
a form of great flexibility. This due primarily to the incessant exchange
of internal elements with external systems.

Its through the sociologe Luhmann, that the système of autopoiesis enters in the field of communicational systems (sociologie).

Evident relations existent of course to the philosophie of Aristoteles, his concept of poiesis and its various interpretations through history.
